Jabberwocky

the kestrel spun its silver plea
as dandelions danced and spun
barb wired posts sheltered thistle tea
beneath an unforgiving sun

a lizard crept with scales of glass
twitching to its own metronome
all among the high prairie grass
in hues of brown and reds of tone

with Phobos flying through the sky
reflecting in the water’s sheen
the red child had to wonder why
such a scene was just make believe
