Academy Awards 1984-1995 (A Part 2)

A few years ago, I looked at a swath of the Oscar Best Pictures and complained about how they missed the real best pictures pretty consistently. I need to update that list with the past decade or so. However, back then, I said that they had done a good job from the mid-80s to the mid 90s. Here is a look at that stretch:

1984. Amadeus.

I agree with this pick.

1985. Out of Africa?

Good, but what about Witness or Back to the Future?

1986. Platoon?

The Mission was better by far.

1987. The Last Emperor?

The Princess Bride would be my pick.

1988. Rain Man?

Die Hard has been more long-lastingly successful.

1989. Driving Miss Daisy?

Dead Poetā€™s Society should have won.

1990. Dances with Wolves.

Agree

1991. The Silence of the Lambs.

Agree

1992. Unforgiven.

Agree, although I would have liked to have seen A River Runs Through It or Bran Stokerā€™s Dracula get nods.

1993. Schindlerā€™s List.

Agree

1994. Forest Gump.

Everyone points to this year as a misstep, but I agree, Gump is better, if even slightly, than Pulp Fiction and certainly then Shawshank.

1995. Braveheart.

Agree
