2024 Film Thoughts for Upcoming Posts

2024 was considered by many to be a weak year for film. I haven’t seen enough movies yet to support or refute that view. However, I did notice a larger than usual tendency last year of reliance on established intellectual property. There were even more than the usual large number of sequels, prequels, and part twos last year. In some cases, such movies can add interesting angels or ideas to the conversation. Rarely, sequels can surpass the original idea. A lot of the time, however, it is an exercise in making money. That in itself is not a bad thing. Movie studios exist to entertain, draw a crowd, and make artists (and investors) a profit. However, 2024 had some strange examples. Over the next several week, I plan to review several of these films along with the inspiration when I have seen it. Should be an interesting exercise…
