Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994) Saturday Monster Movies
In what could be deemed the second part of the “Baby Godzilla” trilogy, story logic is tossed out the window (yet again). Godzilla, a huge, terrifying metaphor for the real horror of nuclear weapons, always seems to devolve into childish spectacle. In this entry, we get a plethora of silly concepts with no explanation that increasingly defy any suspension of disbelief. Spontaneous generation, psychic powers, telepathy, and telekinesis are too much to through in if you want people to accept giant monsters.
However, things look cool, are not too scary, and are even funny at times. So, the goal here is not thought but rather fun. We are back in the mode of the 70s Godzilla movies, but with a 90s aesthetic. And Godzilla is heroic again.
It seems you can’t be a fan of a monster for too long before you start to root for it.
