Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966) Saturday Monster Movies

This movie feels only peripherally like a Godzilla film. It turns out, it was originally going to be a Kong movie. That accounts for some of the freshness and creativity. More than just giant monster fights, you get a dance marathon, bank robbery, high seas travel, shipwreck, and terrorist nuclear weapon builders. Not to mention, the titular Ebirah, the giant, cranky crab!

The main moral of this story might be to be careful who you hang out with. Our main characters, a group of boys partying late at night after the dance marathon, decide to break into a yacht, only to end up trapped with a bank robber and ultimately shipwrecked at sea.
