The 6th Best All Time Film

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
It is hard to believe that the 6th best film of all time is already 20 years old. It also still is my favorite movie since 1998, despite the way that some of the effects have aged. The story it is adapting is simply so good, and the adaptation so well done, that it is still a masterpiece.
I view this trilogy as a single piece, but each movie does manage to stand alone pretty well. (Unlike some recent multi-book adaptations, and the frankly terrible three-movie adaptation of the Hobbit a few years after LOTR.). As such, I do consider “Fellowship” my favorite of the three. I feel the same way about the books, “Fellowship” followed by “Return” with “Two Towers” coming third and still great.
