The 12th Best All Time Film

(2nd Post-1998)
El Laberinto del Fauno (2006)

Del Toro’s most polished and successful film is also the one with his most important message. The fairy-tale set in a magic realist version of the Spanish Civil War setting is all about the dangers and evils of fascism. Ofelia is a girl faced with surviving a harsh real world and an equally harsh and dangerous magical world. The monsters we meet in this film are hard to face because so many of them a very real indeed. And it is important for people of all ages to be aware of monsters that threaten every age.
