The 15th Best All Time Film
(4th Post-1998)
The Matrix (1999)
I think “The Matrix” has diminished in my mind in the two decades plus since it came out. And yet it is still a groundbreaking film in so many ways. It encapsulates postmodern philosophy in a way that makes it understandable, but also enabled a cultural conversation that paved the way for faith to engage that worldview in better ways. Visually it was as groundbreaking as film pillars that came before: “Wizard of Oz” or “Star Wars.” And it is still my 4th favorite film post-1998.
