Jalapeño

I have a kitten 

named jalapeño 
had him a long time 
since I was a niño
and though you might doubt
that that is likely
I never said that 
he’s a pet or lively 
he lives in a jar
in formaldehyde 
and as to the name
I let taste be my guide
