Precipice!

as they raced down the hairpin, mountain trail
careening between cliff face and precipice
they all thought about better days gone by
somewhat vague but definitely trailing hence
veering hard wanting to reverse course but
back is no option on narrow abyss

the next split second will decide between
a plummet and over corrective fix
rolling destructive crash into the cliff
or a plunge off the dizzy precipice
or…

maybe just maybe there is a gentle,
albeit nail-biting, edge-hugging drift
back to the middle of the road forward
