The 30th Best All-Time Film

(10th 1973-1998)
A Christmas Carol (1984)

We now get to the top 30 films of all time, as well as top 10 territory in the sub-lists. The top 10 film between 1973 and 1998 is not one that was released in theaters, but rather a TV production. This may knock it off some people’s consideration. Making things even more challenging, it is an adaptation of a much beloved story, and one that a lot of people hold in high regard based on another film adaptation. However, for my money no one has done a better job of telling “A Christmas Carol” than Clive Donner directing George C. Scott in the role of Scrooge.

Dickens’ story is one for the ages, and an ever-needed reminder to Christians in the West that Christianity is not the sort of ideology that endorses hyper-capitalism nor some pharisaical philosophy that people get what they deserve. If we have been granted mercy and grace, and the Christmas story reminds us, then we need to treat our fellow man/sinner with the same mercy and grace, forgiving and blessing everyone in our lives.
