The 40th Best All-Time Film
(15th Pre-1973)
The Sound of Music (1965)
The 40th film on my all-time list is the second of three musicals from the sixties staring Andrews. (That gives away another film yet to debut on this list.)
It is fun for the way Maria connects to the kids and falls in love, but the real greatness of “The Sound of Music” is in the political tension and the end of the film. The way the family has to stand their ground in a zeitgeist of nationalism and hatred is inspiring.
