The 21st Best Films
Pre-1973
Fantasia (1940)
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1937)
Pinocchio (1940)
Bambi (1942)
Dumbo (1941)
The films Disney released before the “package” pieces of the war years are all masterpieces. And Pinocchio is a wonderfully dark morality play for an animated film. But Fantasia is an amazing, genre-all-to-itself, art like no other. (Until they released Fantasia 2000.) I think it is time to start thinking about Fantasia 2020. No need to wait 60 years again!
1973-1998
Forrest Gump (1994)
I know people are sore that this beat out Pulp Fiction for Best Picture. But, even though PF is a good film, I think Gump is still the better movie. It does not fail to move me every time. And, the message of love the way Forrest embodies it is an inspiration.

The Lego Batman Movie (2017)
I love this movie more than a lot of other Batman movies and much more than the Lego Movie. It is unapologetically sincere and earnest.
