The 21st Best Films

Pre-1973

Fantasia (1940)
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1937)
     Pinocchio (1940)
     Bambi (1942)
     Dumbo (1941)
The films Disney released before the ā€œpackageā€ pieces of the war years are all masterpieces. And Pinocchio is a wonderfully dark morality play for an animated film. But Fantasia is an amazing, genre-all-to-itself, art like no other. (Until they released Fantasia 2000.) I think it is time to start thinking about Fantasia 2020. No need to wait 60 years again!

1973-1998

Forrest Gump (1994)
I know people are sore that this beat out Pulp Fiction for Best Picture. But, even though PF is a good film, I think Gump is still the better movie. It does not fail to move me every time. And, the message of love the way Forrest embodies it is an inspiration.

Post-1998

The Lego Batman Movie (2017)
I love this movie more than a lot of other Batman movies and much more than the Lego Movie. It is unapologetically sincere and earnest.
