The 41st Best Movies
Pre-1973
Stagecoach (1939)
John Ford This is one of the most watchable black and white, 1930s films out there. A western with concerns about people and relationships and societal problems, not just shooting and riding. John Ford’s third entry on this list, but not his last.
1973-1998
Jurassic Park (1993) Steven Spielberg
Another “genre” film that has more of a cultural impact that would be expected. This one deals brilliantly with philosophical issues such as progress, science, and how far can we go before we take things too far.
Post-1998
Chicken Run (2000) Nick Park
This film caused me to give Claymation a chance. Before this it was an unimpressive medium only fit for the likes of Gumby. Aardmann changed all of that with their shorts, but here they made a full length story that is smarter than it had any right to be, expectations-wise.
