The Defeat of God's Enemies (Revelation 19:11-20:15)

At this point, John sees the end of the evil world set up against God. Christ returns in power and the Beast and his armies are routed. We do not even get an account of the battle. Its conclusion is forgone. That is the point of this passage and the book as a whole.

And then there is the issue of the 1,000 years. A lot of speculation has been exhausted over this 20th chapter. Whole systems of theology have been distinguished around it. Several off-shoot groups now recognized as cults have sprung up trying to decipher it.

It may seem like a cop-out, but the best thing said about the issue is the now old joke of Panmellenialism—the idea that it will all pan out in the end. Truth is that we can know that God will win. No force in creation can oppose Him. Beyond that, it is dangerous to draw lines in the sand over interpretations of what prophecies will mean when they finally come to pass. It may be best to wait and see.
