Pitch
I toss this out for
Your consideration that
The tone is all wrong
The slope is very
Precarious and icy
And sounds like a gong
A dark and sticky
Zeitgeist’s come back to haunt us
A dirge is its song
We need a moral
Concert pitch recovery
And a conductor
Who isn’t such a schlong*
(Poetry Scales 71)
*Etymology: Yiddish shlang, literally, snake, from Middle High German slange, from Old High German slango, modern German Schlange, —a treacherous or deceitful person
