Top Movies 92-94 in Brief

94. “The Parent Trap” (1961)
Based on a book by Dresden author, Erich Kästner, this Disney film is one of the better live-action efforts from the animation company.

94. “The Revenge of the Pink Panther” (1978)
I don’t lump all of the Sellers-Edwards Panther movies together, because they span two different lists as I have them here, but also because they are so different. Revenge is my fourth favorite of them all.

94. “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” (1976)
“Strikes Again” is just lumped in here with “Revenge.” It is a lesser achievement, even though many of the most remembered jokes of the whole series are found here.

94. “The Book of Eli” (2010)
A post-apocalyptic film (those always have a special charm) that is elevated a bit by the theme and the twist that seems to hold up under scrutiny.

93. “How the West was Won” (1963)
The most epic of epic westerns.

93. “The Untouchables” (1987)
As a rule I am not a huge fan of mobster movies (even though a few more will show up here) but this one is focused on the fight against the mob. Connery is great as is De Niro, and the tribute scene to Battleship Potemkin is perfectly done.

93. “Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon” (2006)
An intelligent satire of slasher horror that manages to scare and disturb as much as the movies it sends up. But not one for those who do not already like Friday the 13th or Halloween.

92. “Rebecca” (1940)
The film that brought Hitchcock to Hollywood. My least favorite of his “perfect” films. One of the great gothic stories.

92. “Arachnophobia” (1990)
One of those Spielberg movies that were not directed by him; and one of the better ones at that.

92. “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” (2005)
A great adaptation of this superb satirical science fiction. I just wish they had made the rest of the series.
