Cephas the Dog
For some there’s never a failure
It’s never the waves that distract
They thought they’d impress on the water
In sinking, they rearrange facts
“I meant to go for a swim,” they say
Or, “I’ve now been called to turn back.”
When the going gets ruff
There was a bite behind that bark
And here at the edge
We get bit
“Made the filth of the world.”
But in addition to that we are
Scapegoats for the washouts
When they quit
It’s never the waves that distract
They thought they’d impress on the water
In sinking, they rearrange facts
“I meant to go for a swim,” they say
Or, “I’ve now been called to turn back.”
When the going gets ruff
There was a bite behind that bark
And here at the edge
We get bit
“Made the filth of the world.”
But in addition to that we are
Scapegoats for the washouts
When they quit
