18 Films for 2018.1
A two-tier list of films I am anticipating for the first half of 2018, the truly anticipated and the “can’t look away” types:
Anticipated:
1. Incredibles 2
I loved the first Incredibles. It is near the top of my favorite animated films as well as my favorite superhero films.
2. Avengers: Infinity War
The Marvel films are diminishing returns lately, at least the pure superhero ones. But, the Guardians make an appearance and it is a guaranteed event.
3. Solo: A Star Wars Story
The first of these “Star Wars Stories” (Rogue One) was my least favorite film of last year. But I can’t help being interested. This one feels less useless.
4. The New Mutants
I’ve been wanting a scary super hero movie forever. This probably won’t deliver, though.
5. The Nun
Purely a guilty pleasure.
6. Early Man
I watch every film Aardman releases.
7. Red Sparrow
Cold War spy intruigue.
8. Omniverse
The rumored title for Laika’s next film. I loved two of their films and liked the other two so far.
9. Isle of Dogs
My son has me watching all of Wes Andersons films again. I am starting to appreciate them a little more. We’ll see about this one.
“Can’t Look Away”:
1. A Wrinkle in Time
I would love this to be amazing, but I have a bad feeling about it.
2. You Were Never Really Here
This may end up being too dark, even for me.
3. Game Night
I don’t tend to like comedies post-1980s, but if it isn’t just crass this one might be fun.
4. The God Particle
I’m just intrigued with this one for the “Cloverfield” connection.
5. A Quiet Place
This one looks original.
6. Soldado
Sequel to Sicario.
7. Condorito
I like the characters. The film looks very iffy.
8. Annihilation
This is the latest “Emperor’s New Clothes” in the vein of 2001. Dumb posing as smart and inciteful. It is probably going to be terrible.
9. Mary Magdaline
Contrary to other Biblical films coming out this year that look safe and boring, this one looks like it has the potential to make me mad and to make me have to think.
