2005 in Film
2005 was a tough year in film. A lot of promising stories and ideas were disappointments. Some that were initially disappointing, like War of the Worlds, have gotten better with time and perspective. Even the best of the bets could have been so much more. The top six on this list here, though, are still truly great:

I recall 2005 being one of the better movie years of the decade, actually. Here's a few of the year's better movies, that I highly recommend:
ReplyDeleteA HISTORY OF VIOLENCE
CAPOTE
WALK THE LINE
HUSTLE & FLOW
MUNICH
CINDERELLA MAN
THE CONSTANT GARDENER
JUNEBUG
THE SQUID & THE WHALE
MURDERBALL
SIN CITY
Lots of good movies there. I especially recommend "A History of Violence," "Munich," and "Capote."
One word: Serenity.
ReplyDeleteI need to catch up with Serenity. I am a fan of Buffy, but haven't had the time to get into Serenity...either the series or the movie.
ReplyDeleteSacrilege! I like Buffy too, but Firefly and Serenity were Whedon's best work by far.
ReplyDeleteLuckily for your sake Firefly is on Hulu, but you'll have to wait a couple weeks to watch the the episodes in order (they have five episodes available at a time, with a new one posted each Monday, and they are currently two away from the end of the season). I think the pilot should be available on the 26th:

You'll enjoy Serenity a lot more if you wait to watch it until after watching the series.
